(There is a man in a UEO speedboat heading for an island. The man is wearing a UEO uniform.) (GELF Colony; aka: Dagger Island) (UEO Maximum Security Facility: Sector 7) (Watchtower) Guard: Time to let the animals out of their cages. (A group of people come out in a single file line and go into the yard. Both male and female. Their skin holds all the colors of mankind. They are Daggers. They begin to exercise. The UEO boat arrives at the island.) Guard: (to man in boat) Welcome back, sir. (The man heads toward the entrance to the facility. The guard in the watchtower leans over to talk to him.) Guard: So, how was the vacation, Lt. Brody? Brody: Nice, Reynolds. Now open the gate. Reynolds: Uh, do you have the password? Brody: Just open the gate. Reynolds: (laughs) Yes, sir. (Reynolds buzzes him in. As Brody walks by the yard the Daggers stare at him.) (Office) Brody: What's going on DeNado? DeNado: I'll tell you what's going on. They're up to something, Lieutenant. I can feel it. Brody: They're always up to something this time of year. Tomorrow's their birthday. DeNado: Some birthday. 20 years ago fifty test tubes get poured out into a petrie dish. That's why we get to baby-sit a bunch of camouflaged freaks. Brody: They're not freaks. DeNado: Yeah, yeah?GELF's. Genetically Engineered Life Forms. But it was a failed experiment, Jimmy. Just like those dead astronauts we got stuck up there circling in the Milky Way. Brody: You're a real humanitarian, DeNado. DeNado: I'm a UEO Lifer. Brody: They're alive, DeNado. DeNado: Come on! They can't even reproduce. They were just supposed to be soldiers. The perfect jar heads out there dying for the holy cause of the moment. Brody: If you hate them so much, DeNado, why'd you sign up for this? DeNado: Because when some young Lewie like you ain't around bleeding through his heart for these genetically mismanaged GELF's, I am in charge. Brody: Then you better make the best of it. DeNado: Trust me, I am. Brody: (looks out the window and sees that the GELF's are gone.) Where'd they go? DeNado: It's hard to say, Lieutenant. But they're quick little devils aren't they? Well, my shifts up. Good luck. (leaves) Brody: (into PAL) Get me a person status report. (Hallway) Guard: (into PAL) They're all here, Lieutenant. Relax. (New Cape Quest, Florida) (A helmeted person on a motorcycle is speeding down the road. His tags get scanned because he is going 164.6 MPH.) (Police Station) Woman: Attention vehicle number 32189, travelling 64 miles above accepted speed allowances. (As she speaks the motorcycle slows down.) Woman: Infraction Level 7. $913 dollars has been deducted from your social security account. (The driver of the motorcycle hits the handle bar in irritation.) Woman: Thank you. (The motorcycle continues on and pulls up to where the new seaQuest is docked. The person takes off the helmet and we see that it's Captain Bridger. He looks at the new boat with pride. He suddenly hears a familiar voice and turns to look at the water as Lucas goes by on a Jetski with a girl on the back. Bridger follows them.) (Lucas pulls up to the beach) Cindy: Come on, let's do that again. Lucas: (as he climbs off the jetski) Ah, I can't. I'm already late. Cindy: So? Lucas: So?I'm in the Navy. Navy guys can't be late. Cindy: You're not in the Navy. Lucas: Well, I'm almost in the Navy. Cindy: Well, I'm almost your girlfriend. Lucas: We've just got to sail up to New York. It's no big deal or anything, just a parade for the new seaQuest, and I gotta be there on account of I'm one of the crew. And the president's gonna be there. Cindy: The president? Lucas: Yeah, I guess he want's to see the new boat. Cindy: What happened to the old boat? Lucas: It sunk. Cindy: What happens of this one sinks? Lucas: I'll swim back to take you for another ride. Cindy: You better. (They kiss.) Bridger: Very nice. Very, very nice. Lucas: (looks up and sees him) Captain, hi. I, uh, was just waiting around here for you and I met Cindy. Cindy, this is my Captain, Captain Bridger. Cindy: A Captain. Bridger: Hi. Lucas: Yeah, and I'm gonna be one too someday so relax. (to Bridger) How have you been, sir? Bridger: Apparently not as well as you. You know we're shipping out at dawn. Lucas: Yeah, I know, that's why I've been hanging around here for you. Bridger: Don't hang around for me, I'm ready to go. Are you packed? Lucas: Not exactly. (to Cindy) I'll see you when I get back. You'll wait for me, right? (She ignores him and steps closer to Bridger) Cindy: Hey, Mr. Captain. That's a cool motorcycle. Can I have a ride? Bridger: (laughs) I've got enough points on my license already. Cindy: (rolls her eyes) You guys are so boring. (she walks off.) Lucas: I can't believe that. Two seconds ago she was ready to give me a tonsilectomy. Bridger: Come on. Get on. We'll go get your gear. Lucas: I like the beard, sir. Bridger: And I love the earring, but it's not regulation. (Lucas gets on the back of the motorcycle) How long have you known this girl? Lucas: Ah?about 20 minutes. Bridger: Must've been a hell of a summer, huh? Lucas: Oh, it was great. Would you wait for me? Bridger: Absolutely. Lucas: Really? Bridger: Absolutely. (GELF Colony) (A Mariah's Bedroom) Joseph: It's just a show of strength, Mariah. Nothing more. Mariah: No. It's what birthday's are for. A celebration of what we've become. Joseph: We must have patience. Mariah: Patience. Patience is a feast for fools. What we want is freedom. Things are different now, Joseph. What's happening with Sara has made them different. Joseph: That's why they must listen to us this time. Mariah: No. That is why we must fight. Joseph: Fighting is why they made us. And I won't dignify that mistake. (Another bedroom) Mathew: David, what are you doing? This is only supposed to be a demonstration. David: A demonstration of our resolve. Choose your sides, Mathew, or die here. Mathew: David, they're not gonna kill us. They can't. It's not their law. David: If we stay here, they already have. (A guard enters the room) Guard: Still up, huh Matty? Mathew: Yes, sir. Guard: Yeah, well tomorrow's gonna be a big day. You guys are all gonna be 21. You know, that used to mean something once. Used to mean that you were a man. (Mathew looks at him.) Mathew: I am a man. (Mariah's Bedroom) (DeNado enters) DeNado: Hey, have you been waiting for me? Mariah: I'm always waiting for you. You're a man. A real one. DeNado: Yeah, and you're almost a woman. I guess that's what makes this work so well, isn't it? Mariah: Yes, it is. (They kiss) DeNado: Happy Birthday, sweetheart. (He turns to look at her painting while he undresses.) Mariah: Thank you, sir. (She grabs his weapon and aims it at his head.) (seaQuest, Docking Bay) (All the new crew and supplies are arriving. It's chaos.) Announcement: All visitors report to the deck officer before proceeding. Ford: Okay folks, listen up, because I'm only going to go through this once. (reading off a clip board) Harmson, Henderson, Hahoki Hines, Jamison, Johnson, Jones, Kellogg. Enlisted crew quarters, Deck 13, Section L. (A young woman walks up to him.) Henderson: I'm Henderson, Lonnie Ellen. Ft. Smith, Wyoming. Did you call Henderson yet? Ah, did you call me? Ford: Yes, I did. Henderson: Sorry. I didn't hear. Where do I go? Ford: Where do I go, sir? Henderson: (snaps to attention) Where do I go, sir? Ford: First generation Navy, right? Henderson: My father ran a solar station and I'm pretty good with the wrenches, ah, sir. Ford: Deck 13, Section L, Bunk 53, Upper K, and only one duffel per sailor. Henderson: Oh, but I need this. This is my?(Ford takes the bag from her and pulls out a stuffed dog.) Addison. Ford: Addison. Henderson: He doesn't take up a lot of room. Ford: I'm afraid Addison is going to have to miss this tour sailor. (He tosses the duffel, and Addison into a giant pile of similar items he's taken from other crew members. Henderson looks at him, shocked.) Deck 13, Section L. Move it. (she leaves) (Ortiz walks up.) Ortiz: I could sing her to sleep until she gets used to being at sea, Commander. Ford: Secured, Ortiz. You know if I remember correctly, last year you tried to smuggle your blankie on board. Ortiz: No, no. That was a blanket, and it was an heirloom. My great grandmother knit that by hand. Ford: No, it had little animals on it. Ortiz: They were tigers raising their fists in triumph. Ford: They were kittens waving bye-bye. Here's your bunk-mate assignment. Ortiz: I get to choose my own bunk-mate this tour, right? Last guy kept cutting his toe nails and leaving them all over the floor. Ford: Look, Ortiz. I have to have this boat ready for a parade around the statue of liberty by tonight. We're leaving at dawn, but the boat isn't even done yet. The paint is still wet. Ortiz: Have you ever stepped on somebody else's toe nails in your bare feet? Ford: I don't care about your bare feet. O'Neil can't boot up the vid-link, Bridger is missing in action, half the new crew's uniforms don't' fit, and the rest of them want to call their mommies. Ortiz: Very creepy. Ford: Look Ortiz, could you just go help O'Neil? Ortiz: Okay. (leaves) Ford: Has anybody seen Captain Bridger? (Bridge) (The new updated bridge is a far cry from the old one. The doors open and Bridger walks in. He checks out the new setup. He sits down in his Captain's chair and notices a small wooden box. He picks it up and on the top it says 'Nathan Bridger, Captain'. He opens the box and inside is the master key for the seaQuest. He picks up the key and inserts it into the 'ignition' and all the boats systems turn on. He gets up and goes to the front of the bridge where the vid-screen is. He hits a button on the control panel and the vid-screen rises up revealing a window. He looks out the window and sees Darwin swimming up. He makes some hand motions for Darwin to come inside the boat. Darwin nods and swims off. Bridger walks over to the pool and hits the button for the cover to open, and he turns on Darwin's voice box. The pool cover begins to open, gets stuck, then opens all the way. Darwin swims up.) Bridger: Well, what do we think of the new seaQuest, pal? Darwin: Feels good. Bridger: It feels great to be back again, doesn't it? (He hears a noise and looks up to see a GELF cleaning the ramp above the pool.) Bridger: Hello. I'm Captain Bridger. (he walks over to the GELF) Have you been assigned to the seaQuest? GELF: I clean it. Bridger: Yes, it's very clean. GELF: I'm not done yet. Bridger: You're an Alpha Model K, aren't you? GELF: I'm a Dagger. Bridger: Well, that's kind of a nasty word. GELF: It's what they call me. Bridger: You're a GELF. GELF: Yes. If you want to, sir, Captain, sir, you can call me Dagwood. Like a joke, Dagwood the Dagger. Makes me laugh sometimes. (one laugh) See. Bridger: Welcome aboard. (they shake hands) You're gonna do just fine. Dagwood: Um, I'm not for sailing, sir, Captain, sir. I was supposed to be effective fighting personnel. But now I'm just effective cleaning personnel. They fighting personnel part didn't work out very?right. Bridger: I know that. Dagwood: They said it was because I was the first, the prototype. So then they made a lot more of me. Bridger: Yeah, well, that part didn't work out so well either. Dagwood: Everything works out in some way. Bridger: I suppose so. (GELF Colony, Office) Brody: (into intercom) Reynolds. (Watch Tower) (Reynolds and another guard are playing a virtual boxing game.) Brody: (on intercom) Reynolds! Reynolds: (turns on the intercom) Yeah, post 9D. Brody: (on intercom) You guys are on duty, Corporal. Reynolds: (into intercom) Yeah, we're on duty. Hey, this is the duty here, Lieutenant. (Office) Brody: (into intercom) Have you seen DeNado? (Watch Tower) Reynolds: (into intercom) It's not my turn to watch him, sir. Did you check with his old lady? Sometimes DeNado gets in late and likes to sleep in. (Office) Brody: (into intercom) Well he's not on his watch. And where is everybody now? They're supposed to be exercising. (Watch Tower) Reynolds: (into intercom) Look, everybody's here, Lieutenant. If you mean the Daggers, on their birthday they usually do whatever they want. (Office) Brody: (into intercom) Yeah, well I want you to find DeNado. (Watch Tower) Reynolds: (into intercom) Look, we're in the middle of a game here, Lieutenant. (Office) Brody: (into intercom) Find him, damn it! Then I'm writing you up. (Watch Tower) (Reynolds loses the boxing game) Reynolds: (into intercom) Yeah, well, do me a favor and write me a ticket off of this sandpile. (Sara's Room) (Sara is in labor) Mariah: It's all right, Sara. Everything is going to be fine. Mathew: How do you know, Mariah? You've never done this. None of us have. Joseph: Today is not the day for revolution, Mariah. Mariah: Today is the only day for revolution, Joseph. Mathew: What about the baby? What about our baby? Mariah: This child will be born free. What more can we ask for? We are people now, and this baby proves it. (Hallway) Reynolds: Hey, where you at Ray? I tell you Brody's on your tail pal. (A Dagger grabs him and pulls him into a bedroom where DeNado and other guards are held captive.) (seaQuest, Maintenance Room) (O'Neil is trying to fix the vid-link) O'Neil: Oh, great. (Ortiz shows up.) Ortiz: What's the problem? O'Neil: Oh, this boat is two months from being finished that's the problem. (into headset) Commander, is that any better? (Bridge) (A boxing match is on the vid-screen) Ford: Oh yeah, lots. Tony Martinez is beating Gorgeous George on points. (Maintenance Room) O'Neil: Yea. Miguel, can you get an R-7 line up, please. Ortiz: Yeah. O'Neil: Let's see if we can move this turbine vent. I think it's causing the interference in our free surge view. Ortiz: How's that? (Bridge) Ford: Much better, now Woody Woodpecker is ahead on points, too. (Maintenance Room) O'Neil: Swell. We've been polluting the universe with radio and television waves for the last hundred years, and somehow seaQuest has turned into a giant antenna. Ortiz: Hey, you know I've never seen 'Abbot and Costello meet Frankenstien'. You think you can get that? I hear it's a classic. O'Neil: Miguel, the turbine unit, please. Thanks. >(Bridge) Ford: It's still not working, O'Neil. (Bridger walks up behind him) Where is Captain Bridger? Bridger: Looking for me, Commander? Ford: Where have you been? (laughs) I mean, hello. Ford & Bridger: How are you? Ford: I'm fine. Bridger: Good. How was your vacation? Ford: Excellent. I took a course on Fractol Theories of Cold Fusion. Bridger: Oh, (laughs) don't ever change, Jonathan. Ford: I wasn't planing on it. O'Neil: (on small screen) How's that? (The vid-screen starts working) Bridger: Oh, that's great, O'Neil. O'Neil: (on screen) Glad to have you back, Captain. Bridger: See that, I come aboard it starts ticking like a Swiss watch. Ford: We have to be in New York by dinner. Bridger: Well, we got plenty of time. I'm in the Ward Room interviewing new officers. Ford: Oh, don't flush the toilet. Last time it was used it flooded the galley. It seems out Swiss watch isn't quite water resistant yet. Bridger: It's just the shake down crews, Jonathan, relax. (On screen - The turbine falls onto O'Neil. He's trapped.) O'Neil: (on screen) Oh! Ortiz: (on screen) I can't move it! We're gonna need some help, Captain. Bridger: Let's go get 'em. Computer: Structural collapse in Section D. (Maintenance Room) Bridger: (running up) Hang in there O'Neil. (Bridger, Ford, Ortiz, and another crew member try to life the turbine but can't.) O'Neil: I can't breath! (The crew member runs off to get more help and Dagwood walks up) Bridger: No, stand back. Stand back. Dagwood: I can help. Bridger: No, there's no room. No, go. (Dagwood moves Ford out of the way and picks up the turbine all by himself.Bridger gapes for a moment and then helps O'Neil up.) Bridger: Easy, O'Neil. (to Dagwood) You can put that down now. Dagwood: Where? Bridger: Anywhere you want, pal. (Dagwood sets the turbine down.) O'Neil: Who's that? Ford: That's Dagwood. He's a GELF. Ortiz: A Dagger? O'Neil: Hey! He saved my life. (to Dagwood) Thanks. Dagwood: Okay. I am a Dagger. The prototype. Ford: (to Bridger) Can we keep him? Bridger: I hope so. It's up to him. (to Dagwood) What do you say? Dagwood: Like I said before, sir, Captain, sir. Everything works out in some way. It would be?good. (leaves) Bridger: (to O'Neil) Let's get you to Med Bay. O'Neil: Aye, sir. (GELF Colony) (The Daggers take over the island, capturing almost all of the guards. Brody is in the office when he sees the Daggers free, and trying to get in.) Brody: (sounds alert) This is Lt. Brody, we have a Code Red. Repeat Code Red Security breech. Repeat this is Lt. Brody, we have a Code Red. Does anybody hear me? (he cycles the escape pod. He barely makes it in and launches. He escapes.) (All the guards are escorted by Daggers into the Yard. Mariah walks up with Sara's baby.) Mariah: Our future! Our freedom! (The Daggers Cheer) (Open Sea) (Escape Pod) Brody: This is an SOS. Emergency beacon 1793 C5. Repeat this is an SOS beacon 1793 C5. Do you read? This is Lt. James Brody. GELF Colony in revolt. Emergency beacon 1795 C5. Is anybody out there? (GELF Colony) (Office) David: How's it going? Mariah: I'm finding everything we need to know. (UEO Headquarters, Main Complex) (Two MP's exit the building escorting a prisoner.) Prisoner: You got a restaurant here? I could go for some eggs benny. Guard 1: You got a boat to catch. Prisoner: Hey, what's the chance of you flatheads letting me catch a wave of two before I start my new career? Guard 1: Two chances. Zero, never, and none. Prisoner: Let me guess, you were a math major, right? Guard 2: You got a lot of attitude, Piccolo. I'll give you that. Piccolo: Yeah, and it comes in two sizes, extra large and oh my god. Heredity, Jack. My old man was NYPD. Guard 2: Yeah, you must've made him real proud. Piccolo: Who knows. He took off with my aunt after they shook down a pretzel vendor in the east village. Guard 1: Sounds like a very classy guy. Piccolo: Yeah, the relatives are loaded with it. Every Christmas we decorated the family tree with our arrest warrants. But hey, what are holidays for, right? Guard 1: Piccolo, do you ever shut up? Piccolo: Only underwater, sir. (GELF Colony) Joseph: We have the hostages. We make our demands. That was the agreement. That was the plan. Mariah: Everything's changed now, Joseph. Joseph: They made us to fight. But now we can be fathers and mothers. Let's lead our children into the future without fear. Mariah: You forget to quickly, Joseph. I'm sorry for that. Joseph: Don't feel sorry for me, Mariah. Ever. Mariah: I would rather fight, and die. Than live like this again. In a zoo like an animal. (she leaves) Mathew: I won't leave my daughter. Joseph: We'll talk to the UEO. They'll listen this time. They have to, we have their men. That's leverage, David. David: No, (holds up the gun) this is leverage. I'm sorry, Joseph. (leaves) (Exterior GELF Complex) Mariah: See who will join us, David. (seaQuest, Ward Room) (Bridger is alone, and a woman walks in) Woman: Oh, sorry. Must be the wrong place. I'm always doing that. Bridger: Doing what? Woman: Going to the wrong place when I'm supposed to be in another place. But then it usually turns out to be the right place after all. I do it all the time. Bridger: You do? Woman: Yeah. I mean when I was a kid they thought it was just luck, intuition, and then you know?the big bugga bugga. I could have made a fortune in Vegas. I'm sorry? Bridger: No, no?I'm mesmerized. Woman: (quietly) I know. (to him) Where can I find Captain Bridger? Bridger: Bridger? Woman: Uh huh. Bridger: He's me. Woman: You're Captain Bridger. I thought you'd be older. Bridger: I'm working on it. Woman: Oh, but older's good. I mean, my father, he's older, much older. But I like that in a dad. Bridger: I'm a traditionalist myself. You must be Dr. Smith. Wendi: Yes. Bridger: Sit down. Wendi: Thank you. But please, call me Wendi. Bridger: Well, not yet. Wendi: There's no need to be so formal. We're going to be on this ship a long time, Nathan. Bridger: It's Captain. And it's not a ship, it's a boat. Wendi: A boat is a vessel that can be carried on a ship, and seaQuest is too big, therefore, it's a ship, Captain. Third generation Navy. My mother is Admiral Lexington Fisher-Smith. Bridger: Sexy Lexy Smith is your mother? Wendi: Well, not if you ask my father. (they laugh) Bridger: She fired me from my first assignment. Wendi: Still a little angry, are we Captain? Bridger: What's that? Psycho babble? Wendi: I only took my residency in psychiatry. My PHD is Bio-Physics. My passion is Parapsychology. I can bend keys and spoons. I can read minds. Bridger: You can read minds and you didn't know I was the Captain? Wendi: Well it's a bit like golf, some days you just can't putt. You're thinking this girls as smart and pretty as her mother, but man what a mouth. (Bridger laughs) Hole in one, huh Captain? (Ortiz rings in on the vid-screen) Ortiz: (on screen) Sorry sir. Bridger: It's no problem. Ortiz: (on screen) It might be. We have a military police launch requesting permission to board. Bridger: Did you check their security? Ortiz: (on screen) They checked out sir. Bridger: Open the launch bay. (Ortiz signs off) Bridger: (to Wendi) Ah, we'll have to continue this at another time. Wendi: Well it was a pleasure. My mother told me you were a bit, ah, pretentious. But I hardly noticed. Bridger: Thanks. Wendi: Nice to meet you, Captain. (leaves) (Bridger looks down at the table and picks up a bent spoon.) (Launch Bay) Bridger: (to Guard 2) You were lucky to catch up with us. Guard 2: You have no idea. I need three signatures on the bottom. Bridger: Prisoner Early Release Program? Why seaQuest? Guard 2: He's an experimental. UEO is placing hardship cases in places where they think they'll do the most good. Bridger: What's he like? Guard 2: Oh, he's a little rough around the edges, but he's got a very healthy attitude. (to Guard 1) Bring him down. (to Bridger) Thanks, Captain. And good luck with the new boat. Bridger: Thank you. (Guard 1 unlocks Piccolo's handcuffs. Both guards exit.) Bridger: I'm Captain Bridger. Piccolo: Seaman Anthony Piccolo, sir. Bridger: At ease, seaman. Piccolo: Thanks. (looks around) Hey, nice diggs. Bridger: What were you in for? Piccolo: Armed robbery. I held up a health food restaurant with a slice of pizza. (Bridger just looks at him) Come on, Cap, that's a joke. Striking an officer. Relax, he had it coming. Any place to get a beer on this tug? Bridger: Why don't you shove that tough guy routine back in your pocket. Piccolo: No can do, Cap. That's my gig. (He tries to make a run for it into the launch, but the doors close to quickly.) Piccolo: Later, Cap. (runs off) Bridger: (into Communicator) Security, we've got a prisoner loose here. (Piccolo runs down a hallway with Bridger close behind.) Bridger: (to Security) Call ahead, stop him. (Piccolo sees the other security team in front of him and runs the other way.) Piccolo: Look out! Bridger: (to Security) Follow him. (to Ford) Come on, Jonathan. We'll cut him off at Sea Deck. (Bridge) O'Neil: (into PAL) Captain, you're not gonna believe it, but I got this guy swimming through the aqua tunnels. (Shots of Piccolo indeed swimming through the aqua tunnels. Darwin's headed towards him. Dagwood is cleaning the glass of the tunnels and sees Piccolo swim by. Piccolo runs into Darwin and Lucas sees him. To get away from Darwin Piccolo tuns around and swims the other way, towards Sea Deck.) (Sea Deck) Piccolo: (in the moon pool) I give up. What is that thing? Bridger: It's a dolphin. (Ford and Bridger haul him out of the water) Bridger: I give everybody on this boat a second chance but you're pushing it. What the hell were you trying to do, kill yourself? Piccolo: No, I'm fine. I was just trying to get out to the ocean. Bridger: Without oxygen?! Piccolo: Come on, I'm an experimental. (They just look at him) When I was in the can, they asked for volunteers, I raised my hand. That's how I got out early. Bridger: What is he talking about? Ford: No idea. Piccolo: This is what I'm talking about. (He lifts up his shirt and we see that he's got gills.) I got gills. (to Bridger) I'm a surfer. I figured they might come in handy. (GELF Colony) (The Daggers head for the boats) David: Where are we going? Mariah: UEO Headquarters. When you want to slay the dragon, David, you go straight for it's heart. (seaQuest, Hallway) Lucas: This just isn't fair. Bridger: Lucas, it's part of growing up. Lucas: Can't I grow up in private? Bridger: This kid is a hardship case. He should have a role model. Lucas: What about Ortiz? He got to pick his own roommate. Bridger: What about me? I've got a room of my own, maybe I should take him in. Make the best of it. (leaves) Lucas: (sarcastic) Great. (Lucas's Room) Piccolo: (hanging up centerfolds) Hey girls! Whoa. Hey! (starts going through Lucas's music collection.) (Lucas enters) Piccolo: Hey kid, these yours? Lucas: Yes, they're mine. My name's Lucas Wolenczak. Piccolo: Whoa, Lucas Wolen?what? Let's settle for Luke. Tony Piccolo. You really listen to this stuff? Lucas: If you don't like it, don't listen to it. Piccolo: Okay. Lucas: (looking around) What did you do in here? (takes down a picture) What is this? Piccolo: What? The place needed serious babing up. Lucas: Yeah, well use your imagination, huh? Piccolo: Hey, that's good. Maybe you're okay after all. But a little visual stimulation never hurt anybody. (Climbs up to the top bunk) And, ah, this is my bunk. Lucas: Yeah, dream on. Piccolo: I will. From up here. I got a large lung capacity and I ain't gonna waste it breathing the bottom of your mattress. (Lucas is shocked) Hand me the tape, will ya? (Bridge) O'Neil: Captain, I've got a UEO distress beacon 1397 C5, very weak. Bridger: What's their location? O'Neil: I'm having trouble with my locators. Bridger: Well, keep on it. O'Neil: Yes, sir. Ortiz: I told you this would happen. But you insisted we wire the P12 connectors directly into the patch bay. O'Neil: That's because we couldn't wire them anywhere but the patch bay. You wanted to go to the parade. Henderson: I'll re-route through my console. That should short cut the patch bay. Ford: I guess it helps to be the daughter of a solar station jockey. Henderson: Yes, sir. I learned a lot from my father. Ford: (sees Addison and picks him up) I thought we got rid of this. Henderson: We did, sir. I mean, you did. I mean, I'm sorry. It's sort of good luck if you know what I mean. Ford: You've had this thing a long time, haven't you? Henderson: Yes, sir. Since I was 5, and he's not a thing, sir. Remember, his names Addison. Ford: Addison. (sets him down) We could use a little good luck on this voyage. Henderson: There, that should work now. Ford: Try it now, O'Neil. O'Neil: (surprised) Got it. Beacon at 3200 kilometers. Zero-Six-Niner, south/southwest. Ford: (to Ortiz) Let's go. (They leave) (O'Neil turns to look at Henderson and she smiles and waves at him. He turns back around with a little smile.) (Escape Pod) (Brody wakes up) Ortiz: Hull's secure, sir. We're gonna try and open the hatch. (They open the hatch and Brody looks up at them.) Ford: Are you okay, soldier? Brody: Just throw in a couple of vid-disks and who needs company. Ford: Humor under pressure, I'm impressed. Commander Jonathan Ford, UEO, seaQuest. Brody: Lieutenant Jim Brody. Ah, forgive me for not saluting, sir, but my arms fell asleep. (Med Bay) Bridger: Were there any casualties? Brody: I had to get out of there pretty fast, sir. Wendi: But the GELF population has lived peacefully ever since they were first created. Brody: Not for the past six months or so. Things have been changing around there. I don't know?subtle things. It's hard to describe. Wendi: But they're artists and dancers. Brody: Well they were bred to be warriors. Bridger: Wait a minute. In the North Korean Crisis you were the Lt. Brody that led the stealth invasion. Brody: Yes, sir. But it's not something I like to brag about. Bridger: No, no. That was a nifty piece of work. (to Ford) I'll be in my quarters. (leaves) Brody: (to Wendi) So what's the prognosis? Will I live? Wendi: (scans his mind) Not long enough to get me in the backseat of your 99' Trident and have me?what was it?check out your transmission? Grow up, Lieutenant. (leaves) Brody: (to Ford) Did I say anything? (Ford smirks) (Bridger's Room) (Gen. Thomas is on the vid-screen) Thomas: (on screen) The Secretary General has given me authority. I need the seaQuest, and I need her now. Bridger: seaQuest may be ready for a parade, but she's not ready for active duty. Thomas: (on screen) Make her ready. Bridger: We'll miss the parade. Thomas: (on screen) Forget the parade! Bridger: No parade. (into Comm-link) Commander. Ford: (on Comm) Yes, sir? Bridger: (into Comm) Bring her around bearing 2-8-0. Engines full ahead. Ford: (on Comm) Aye, Captain. Thomas: (on screen) Nathan, take all and any necessary action. Bridger: There are still hostages on that island. Thomas: (on screen) I'm aware of your predilection for harmony and understanding. But there's no way to attempt understanding or reconciliation with something that came out of a test tube. If you have to blow that island to hell and back, you do it. (signs off) (GELF Colony, The Yard) (Joseph walks through the captives until he reaches DeNado. He kneels down to talk to him.) Joseph: Do you need some water? (DeNado spits at his feet.) Joseph: Make sure this man gets some water. (to DeNado) If I were to respond like you, I would lose my right to pity you for what you are. (He walks over to where Mathew is standing.) Mathew: We sent out some radio calls to the UEO, but we're not getting any response. Maybe Mariah was right, Joseph. Joseph: No, Mathew. Mathew: Sometimes it takes a sword to defeat a sword. Joseph: How are Sara and the baby? Mathew: Sara's frightened. The baby?well the baby looks like me. GELF: Joseph, we just contacted a UEO submarine. They're 2800 kilometers north/northeast of here and they're headed this direction. They want to talk. (They go inside.) (seaQuest, Bridge) (Joseph is on the vid-screen) Joseph: (on screen) We want to discuss the terms of our freedom. Bridger: The UEO will not negotiate as long as you have prisoners. Joseph: (on screen) We don't have prisoners, we are prisoners, Captain. Bridger: I understand your feeling that way, but if either side digs in it's going to result in casualties. Joseph: (on screen) The hostages are in no danger at the moment, Captain. Please don't make this any tougher on us. (signs off) (Mariah's boat) (Joseph is on her vid-screen) Mariah: Stall them, Joseph. Just give me 4 hours. Joseph: I believe they're prepared to kill us even if it means losing their men, Mariah. Mariah: In 4 hours, losing their men will look like a day at the beach. Mariah out. (seaQuest, Bridge) (Joseph calls them again on the vid-link) Joseph: (on screen) You'll have to reconsider. Wendi: (quietly to Bridger) This isn't the way he wants it. Bridger: Joseph, I have a feeling that this decision is not entirely your own. Joseph: (on screen) There are others I have to consult, Captain. However the final decision is mine. Bridger: There are others that I have to consult, and the final decision isn't mine. Joseph: (on screen) We will not release the hostages until we are guaranteed our freedom. (ends call) Bridger: Get me General Thomas. O'Neil: Aye, sir. (GELF Colony, Office) Joseph: They're scrambling at 2000 megahertz. Mathew: Try the standard decode algorythm. Joseph: They're conducting a secure transmission, Mathew. There's nothing standard about this. (They are able to pull in General Thomas's side of the conversation. He does not see them.) Thomas: I'm not going to negotiate with you, Nathan. This is a direct order. I don't care how you do it, but if the GELF's fail to release the hostages you will destroy the colony. (Sara has wandered into the office with the baby and she hears that last part. Neither of the men notice when she slips out again.) (The seaQuest arrives at the GELF Colony) (Bridge) Brody: I rated Triple A-6 in Demolitions. I led the underwater Demo team during that skirmish in Tonga. Ford: Tell me, is there anything you can't do? Brody: Yeah, I'm having one heck of a time trying to learn the bagpipes. Ford: Bet you look good in a skirt. Bridger: Someone needs to get in and disarm the security system. Lieutenant, tell me, if I wanted to get 20 armed men onto that island under the cover of darkness, what am I looking at? Brody: Well, UEO's got sensor registers surrounding the colony. My guess is the GELF's know how to use it. So we can't get a man within 10 miles without them knowing it. Bridger: Suppose they were unarmed, or carrying plastic weapons. Brody: They're using Quart Sonar equipment. Anything more dense than a fingernail?a simple breathing unit, even a wet suit and they'd be alerted in a minute flat. (Bridger has a thought.) (Later) (Tony is about to climb into the pool. He's only wearing a pair of shorts.) Piccolo: So I swim in, get your guys in undetected?what's in it for me? Bridger: What's in it for you? You get to do something worthwhile. Piccolo: Worthwhile isn't in my vocabulary. Bridger: It is now, or you're back in the Brig. Piccolo: You know, nobody on this boat has a sense of humor. Bridger: I do. Wait till you see what you do when you come back. Piccolo: Is that supposed to be funny? Bridger: Get going! (Tony climbs in and swims off) (GELF Colony) (Waste Management Room) Sara: (talking to the baby) You will hear many things about your parents. About who you are, and where you came from. Keep the truth in your heart and take it with you. ( She places the baby in a refuse container, places the lid on it, and seals it. She then inserts the container into a launcher.) I can't let you die with me. (The container is fired into the ocean.) (seaQuest, Bridge) Brody: The main complex is here. The officer and staff quarters come out on this hub. The yard is the most central area and it gives them a 360 degree view of the island. My best guess is this is where they've got their hostages. Ford: So in short, even if Piccolo manages to slip through their sensors, there's no way to get the rest of the men into the colony without being spotted. Brody: Unless their being led by someone who knows the island and who has ground combat experience. Ford: Don't tell me?you were the first to hit the beach at Normandy. Brody: Well if I were a century older, you could count on it. (Piccolo is swimming towards the colony when he comes across the refuse container. He takes it back to the seaQuest.) (Bridge) O'Neil: You're not gonna believe this, Captain. Check out the sea view. (They look and see Tony coming back with the container.) Bridger: (to Ford) Sea Deck. (Sea Deck) Ortiz: Nothing. No readings of any kinds of electronics, explosives. Beyond that? (Baby cries come from inside the container.) Wendi: Oh my God! Get it open. (they open it and see the GELF baby) Oh, hey there? Ortiz: A GELF baby? Bridger: And they aren't supposed to be able to reproduce. Wendi: This looks like the real thing to me. Well, if this is their baby, that means they're becoming human. (UEO Headquarters) (*NOTE: In this episode there is a giant blooper, and I never noticed it until I was transcribing this episode. We see a shot of the UEO headquarters docking bay, and there sitting in the bay is the seaQuest. When we just left the seaQuest at the GELF colony. It's the same shot that is used earlier in the episode. I guess somebody didn't want to do it over again and take the seaQuest out.) (The Daggers arrive and proceed to attack several underwater sightseers.) (Another group goes to the main complex.) (Front Desk) (The Daggers take out the guard) Mariah: Find me General Thomas. David: He's on the Sixth Floor. I'm deactivating all elevator and corridor sensors. I can't control the 6th floor from here. Mariah: We'll come down from the 7th. (Conference Room) Man: We've already got leaks, Frank. We're getting complaints and concerns from the Human Rights (?). Now we've got to have a position on this. Thomas: We do have a position. They're not human. (The Daggers come through the ceiling.) Thomas: What in God's name do you think you're doing? Mariah: Oh, God had nothing to do with this, General. You're responsible for what we are, you created us. Let's go. (seaQuest, Med Bay) Ford: This is strictly against UEO policy. Bridger: She's not a prisoner, Jonathan. She's a baby. Piccolo: And what a heartbreaker, eh Commander? (Baby cries) Ford: Don't look at me. You're the one who was a father. Bridger: Not for many, many years. Piccolo: Sounds like a little gas. (Picks the baby up) Come here. (She burps. Bridger and Ford look at him in surprise) I practically raised my sister. Ford: Where's your sister? Piccolo: (shrugs) Prison. (Dagwood peeks in from the hallway) Bridger: It's all right. You can come in. (He comes in.) Piccolo: Here. (He offers the baby to Dagwood to hold.) Dagwood: No. My hands are too big. Ford: (to Bridger) How's Lucas doing trying to dig us up some information. Bridger: He's doing fine. (Lucas's Room) Wendi: I'm only trying to save you time. Lucas: Yeah, well don't bother. I've been hacking into secure databases since I was nine. Wendi: Yeah, but you can't hack into something that doesn't exist. All records on the GELF experiments were destroyed. Even if you could find someone, they'd never come forward. Half of them still face prosecution. Let me try. We're talking the dark age of genetics here, Lucas. Scientists playing God. Desperate to get into the genetic soldier business. (He looks at her) I did my thesis on ecological integrity. To obtain military superiority in nuclear and chemical war, ground forces have to survive in less that 8% oxygen. That way if they lost their human quotient the genetic personnel could continue to make war. Lucas: How humanitarian. Wendi: Yeah, well they were. They developed the oxygen regenerators for those that might survive. Which is a good thing considering we've destroyed all the rain forests. Without the oxygen regenerators we'd all suffocate. Lucas: So basically we owe the military for the air we breathe. Wendi: Something like that. Computer: Access confirmed. Wendi: Ah, here we go. (Bridger's Room) (Incoming call on vid-screen) Man: (on screen) Captain Bridger, UEO Headquarters has been breached. The GELF's have taken General Thomas and a fully armed Navis 18 Sub. (Bridge) (Bridger walks up) Bridger: All right, listen up. UEO Military Headquarters was attacked and General Thomas was taken prisoner in a Navis 18 submersible. Brody: That's a major piece of equipment, sir. Bridger: It certainly is. Brody: Full operational, cleared in stealth and satellite recon. All phases of extreme 7 evasives. Ford: Undetectable self contained war station. Brody: Isn't that what I just said? Bridger: All right, that's enough. Let's find the submarine. (Navis 18 Sub) Thomas: I'll die before I cooperate. Mariah: I doubt that. Your background in cooperation is well documented. Thomas: What are you talking about? Mariah: (walks over to him) The Korean Conflict in 2010. You were captured along with 3 of your men, but you managed to come out alive. Thomas: I escaped. Mariah: You're a politician, General, not a soldier. Survival is in your genes. (seaQuest, Med Bay) (Lucas is watching the baby but she is crying and he doesn't know what to do. He goes into the hallway to look for some help.) Lucas: I need your help. Woman: Sorry. (walks on) Lucas: Two seconds. (to another woman) Could you just help me out for a minute? Woman 2: No way, Lucas. It's not my shift. (she keeps walking) Lucas: I'll pay you! Man: Not me, I hate kids. (Desperate, he heads for his room.) (Lucas's Room) (Lucas enters with the baby still crying. Tony is reading a magazine.) Piccolo: Lucas, babies have different cries for different problems. You gotta learn to listen. (listens for a second) Her diaper needs changing. Lucas: You can hear that? Piccolo: No, I can smell that. Put her on the table. Lucas: (sets the baby down on the table) Thanks, I owe you one. (Turns around and Tony hands him a diaper) You sure you don't want to do this? Piccolo: No, go ahead. Trust me. This is food for the soul. Lucas: Okay. (Tony plugs his nose as Lucas undoes the diaper) Lucas: Whoa! (takes a step back) Piccolo: That's what they do, Lucas. (Lucas disappears under the table and comes back up wearing and oxygen mask) Piccolo: Hey, Lucas?hurry up. (Bridge)(Bridger is talking to Joseph on the vid-link, Sara and Mathew are there as well) Bridger: You realize that this one act of terrorism negates all our negotiations. Sara: (on screen) Please don't hurt my baby. Wendi: Your baby is doing fine. Joseph: (on screen) We stand as one, Captain. I'm sorry you can't understand that. Wendi: (quietly to Bridger) They don't know, Captain. He's telling you the truth. (to Sara) I understand what a miracle this baby is for you. It must have been very hard for you to let her go. Sara: (on screen) It was my only choice. Joseph: (on screen) We intercepted the General's message ordering you to detonate the island. Bridger: We had no intention of following that order. Joseph: (on screen) Why should we believe you? Brody: Joseph, I was at GELF Colony long enough for you to know that not all of us lie to you. Captain Bridger is one of those people. We all want to help, so please end this thing before that chance slips away. Joseph: (on screen) The power to end this is with you. (ends call) (Navis 18 Sub) (The computer scans the General's eye.) Computer: Confirmed. Thomas, Francis Gideon. General, United Earth Oceans. Please enter UEO passive level ident. Code now. (Mariah holds a microphone up to the General) Thomas: 008 Stoke 81 Computer: Ident cod accepted. Enter vector codes and SAT Coms initiatives. Mariah: Thank you for your cooperation, General. Thomas: Wait a minute! That's a very sophisticated piece of weaponry. Mariah: I know. Target the Air Regeneration Station in the Congo region, David. David: With pleasure. Thomas: Those air exchanges produce the oxygen in our atmosphere. You destroy them and you kill us all. Mariah: We require less that 8% oxygen to survive, General. You humans need 3 times that much. If I destroy 4 of these plants the world is left with 8%. You die, we live. (They target and blow up the Regeneration station) (seaQuest, Bridge) Ford: (shocked) She just turned an S-10 defense satellite around on the Congo Regeneration Air Exchange? and blew it to hell. Bridger: She's gonna suffocate us all. (GELF Colony) (The GELF's are watching a newscast) Reporter: At 0719 Grenich time today, a terrorist attack by unknown persons destroyed the Congo based atmospheric regeneration station in the African Confederation of New Zaire. (seaQuest, Bridge) (The crew is watching the same broadcast) Reporter: A part of the planet wide atmospheric regeneration system, the Congo station was constructed in 2014 following the clear cutting of the equitorial African rain forests. (UEO Headquarters) (The UEO leaders are watching the broadcast) Reporter: The ARS system is only a supplement to the normal generation of breathable oxygen by the Earth's ecosystems. Officials say the loss of the station will have no discernable impact on citizens lives. (seaQuest, Bridge) Bridger: How many of these stations can we afford to lose before it impacts on our lives? Lucas: I'm on it. (goes to the computer and starts working) Since the plancton died off after beta-nine toxic spill?4 stations. Yeah, they destroy the 4 largest stations, all human life will die, except the GELF's. (Navis 18 Sub) Mariah: Greetings citizens of the UEO. (seaQuest) (The Crew watches Mariah make her statement) Mariah: (on vid-screen) I wish I could call you my fellow citizens, but that is something your leaders have always forbidden. My skin reflects all the colors of mankind and if you cut me, I bleed. (UEO Headquarters) (The UEO heads also watch her make her statement.) Mariah: (on vid-screen) But there is one difference. We don't need as much oxygen as you. I've seized control of anti-missile satellite weapons systems number 12. Known as the Ronald Reagan memorial space base. And I have used it to destroy the first of the 10 air regeneration stations that keep this planet breathing. Unless your leaders recognize our humanity and equality as citizens I'm going to (?) the other nine We want the freedom to raise our children in peace. (seaQuest, Med Bay) (At Mariah's last statement Piccolo and Wendi both look at the GELF baby.) (Bridge) Mariah: (on vid-screen) I'm going to keep destroying these plants at the rate of one an hour until the UEO accedes to my demands. (fades out) (The satellite then destroys another air regeneration plant.) (UEO Headquarters, Conference Room) Bridger: (on vid-screen) Give her what she wants. Delegate: UEO policy prohibits negotiating with terrorists. Bridger: (on vid-screen) Human beings in violation of International Law are terrorists. Are you saying that she's human? Delegate: No? Delegate 2: UEO policy gives great deference to the views of the senior commander in charge at the scene. In this case that would be you. Bridger: (on vid-screen) Now I've been in touch with the people in the GELF colony and they only want what everyone else wants, their freedom. I suggest you give it to them. (signs off) (seaQuest, Med Bay) (Wendi is running a few tests on the GELF baby) Dagwood: Is the baby good? Wendi: The baby is very good, Dagwood. It's remarkable. Congratulations. Dagwood: Dagwood is a brother now. Wendi: In a way. Dagwood: Cousin? Wendi: Actually more like an Uncle. You share some of the same DNA characteristics, same gene pool, skin colors?she even has your nose. Dagwood: Is that good? Wendi: Yes. But her fundamental life category data doesn't correspond with your, not completely. It suggests that she's a human. Her lung capacity, her oxygen needs, her blood pressure, all are human. Dagwood: Daggers aren't human. We didn't have a God that made us. We had a man that made us. Wendi: I'm afraid this little girl had a God, Dagwood. Dagwood: How? Wendi: Spontaneous Evolution. (Navis 18 Sub) Bridger: (on vid-screen) The UEO Senate has confirmed citizenship for your people, and granted you amnesty. Mariah: I suppose you want to collect your friends from the colony now. Bridger: (on vid-screen) I'd like to collect General Thomas too. Mariah: He's been delightful company. Bridger: (on vid-screen) Will you contact your people on the island and arrange for the transfer? Mariah: Of course. Bridger: (on vid-screen) Thank you. (signs off) Thomas: Welcome to the human race. Mariah: Thank you. (She begins to target another air regeneration station) Thomas: What are you doing? Mariah: I'm human, I learned how to lie. Thomas: But you've won! Mariah: I spent 20 years in prison. I'm not going to start believing you now. The New England plant will be next, David. (She blows up the plant) (seaQuest, Med Bay) Bridger: Spontaneous Evolution? Wendi: That's right. Bridger: Spontaneous Evolution is an oxymoron, Dr. It's like military intelligence. One cancels out the other. Wendi: Well then what would you call it? Bridger: You should be able to tell me. Wendi: Well the word ridiculous keeps coming up. But I think that mainly applies to your opinion of me. Bridger: Well don't take that personally. A man's mind used to be his castle. Wendi: This baby is human. Bridger: How? Wendi: I don't know. Bridger: Speculate. Wendi: Well, this might sound a little athapremorphic, but applying human characteristics to non-human life is a place to start, Captain. When a living thing, whether it's a water bug or a ballet dancer becomes self-aware they start taking the necessary steps to stay alive. I mean it's evolution, it's survival. A flower will bend towards the morning sun, birds fly south in the winter, and dolphins learn to talk. Bridger: Make your point. Wendi: Well, the GELF's became self-aware. I mean, they began to engage in the social intercourse of community. They shared feelings. I mean, first it was probably fear, then maybe hope, and then they wanted their freedom. Because they've become autonomous, they've become their own species. And once that happened nature took over. Nature needs to protect life. I mean, if it didn't the universe would die. Bridger: Are you talking nature or some divine force? Wendi: Well, it's semantics, take your pick. But somehow it knew that the only way the GELF's could survive was to take the next evolutionary step which was to become human. And then they began to procreate. This GELF baby has all the physiological characteristics of a human being, Captain. (Later) (Bridge) Official: (on vid-screen) The GELF terrorists are continuing to destroy the air exchange plants. Captain Bridger, abandon hostage exchange and engage that high jacked UEO submarine. If necessary sanction with extreme prejudice. (signs off) Ford: I thought we had a deal. Bridger: I thought so too. I'm sorry, Dr. they're human after all. Full attack procedure, Commander. Ford: Aye aye, sir. Red Alert! (break) Bridger: O'Neil do we have her location? O'Neil: I can't break the code, sir. Brody: I can. That used to be my sub. Input code 2 baker 15 victor 7. O'Neil: (inputs code) Got it! Lucas: Is there anything I can do, Captain? Bridger: I think, ah, Henderson could use some support. Lucas: You got it. (Lucas walks over to her) O'Neil: Captain. New England quadrant losing oxygen. Outer regions at 18% and dropping. Bridger: What's our estimated time of engagement, Commander? Ford: 17 minutes. Lucas: (to Henderson) I'm Lucas. Henderson: I?I'm? Lucas: Scared. Henderson: Yeah. Lucas: Yeah, me too. Henderson: Helmsman Henderson. (They shake hands) Lucas: Helmsman? Henderson: Helmsperson. Lucas: Let's just go by first names, huh? Henderson: Sure. I'm Lonnie. Lucas: I'm Lucas. Henderson: You already told me that. Lucas: Yeah, I guess I did. Henderson: Lucas, thanks. (seaQuest finds and tails the Navis Sub) (Navis 18 Sub) David: It's seaQuest. Mariah: How did they find us? David: I don't know, but we can't shake them. We're at maximum. (seaQuest, Bridge) Ford: She's just ahead, sir. Bridger: I see her. Stay with her now. Stay with her. (They chase) (Navis 18 Sub) Mariah: It's time to turn and fight. (She turns the sub and prepares to fire.) (seaQuest, Bridge) Brody: We can take her out, Captain. Bridger: No, no. It's her move. (Navis 18 Sub) David: seaQuest is within weaponry parameters. Mariah: Do it. (They fire on the seaQuest) (seaQuest, Bridge) Ortiz: Enemy torpedoes coming at us dead ahead at 12 o'clock. Impact in 31 seconds. Ford: Arm full counter attack. Bridger: Not yet, Commander. (pause) Piccolo, go up there and assist Ortiz. Piccolo: (surprised) Yes, sir. Bridger: Load intercepts. Ortiz: Intercepts loaded, sir. Bridger: Fire intercepts. (seaQuest fires the intercepts) Piccolo: Intercepts fired, sir. (The intercepts work.) Lucas: It's gonna be okay. (Navis 18 Sub) Mariah: Fire again! (she fires) (seaQuest, Bridge) Ortiz: Second barrage of enemy torpedoes underway, sir. Bridger: Fire intercepts. (Piccolo fires before Ortiz can.) Ortiz: Intercepts fired, sir. (gives Piccolo a look) Ford: We have to counter, sir. Maximum attack. Brody: No we don't. She's out of torpedoes. Bridger: Get me Mariah on the vid-link. O'Neil: Aye, sir. (Break) Mariah: (on vid-screen) Destroy us, Mr. Bridger, but we'll have plenty of time to destroy the last of your needed air supply. Bridger: And destroy yourself as well? Mariah: (on vid-screen) I'm willing to die. My people will live on. Wendi: No they won't. You see this baby? This baby is human, like us. She needs to breathe the same way we do. Mariah: (on vid-screen) You're lying. Wendi: No, I'm not. But it's up to you to believe that. Look at this child. Can you take that risk? I'm telling you the truth, Mariah. Mariah: (on vid-screen) They only risk would be in trusting any of you. I've never heard the truth from your kind before. (Dagwood looks like he wants to step forward, he looks at O'Neil and O'Neil nods for him to go ahead. So he steps forward and takes the baby from Wendi. Mariah looks surprised to see a GELF onboard the seaQuest.) Dagwood: It's true. These people have never lied to me before. And I should know, I'm almost her Uncle. Mariah: (on vid-screen) But you're my brother. Dagwood: Then, believe me? Mariah: (on vid-screen) I do. (GELF Colony) (Bridger is standing with Sara and Mathew looking at the baby. Joseph walks up.) Joseph: Captain Bridger. What will happen to Mariah and our brothers? Bridger: Well they've broken our laws and they'll have to live by that. You'll have to live by those laws as well. Now you have your freedom. Congratulations. Joseph: But, what will we do now? Bridger: That's a question that free men have been asking themselves since time in memorial. I can only wish you good luck. (He walks back over to Sara and Mathew. He looks at the baby, then points at her.) Bridger: She looks just like him. (Meaning Mathew) (Mathew and Sara laugh) (seaQuest, Hallway) (Dagwood is cleaning. Bridger comes up to him.) Bridger: Excuse me. I think we owe you something. Dagwood: You do? Bridger: We do. Dagwood: Why? Bridger: You told the truth. Dagwood: I didn't know what else to tell. Bridger: I know that. That's why I want to thank you. Dagwood: Um, I better go back to work. (Bridger takes his mop away.) You don't want Dagwood to work here anymore? Bridger: Yes, just forget that. (He pulls a seaQuest baseball cap out of his back pocket and sets it on Dagwood's head.) Welcome aboard. (leaves) (Dagwood checks out his reflection and then smiles) (Laundry Room) (O'Neil is sorting his clothing by the day.) O'Neil: Thursday, Tuesday, (pulls out red pair of underwear) Friday! (Just then Henderson walks in. She goes and begins looking in all the dryers. O'Neil hides the underwear under some other clothing. He reaches back into the dryer and pulls out Addison.) O'Neil: I was hoping you were Saturday. (Henderson sees that he has Addison.) Henderson: Thank God, you found Addison. O'Neil: Addison? Henderson: I've been looking all over for him. O'Neil: Who? Henderson: I can't sleep without him. O'Neil: Oh, the bear. Some guys have all the luck. Henderson: You think that's weird, don't you? O'Neil: You're talking to a guy who organizes his underwear by the day. (she smiles) Um, you did really well up there, Add?uh?Henderson. For your first time and everything, I mean. Henderson: I was afraid. O'Neil: Who wasn't. Henderson: You know, I think I'm gonna like it here. (checks out his clothing piles) Ah, you've got your Thursdays in your Tuesday pile. I hate it when that happens. (she moves to leave) O'Neil: Ah, you do this too? Henderson: Doesn't everybody? (smiles and leaves) O'Neil: Friday. (Room) (Piccolo, Ortiz, Wendi, and Lucas are playing cards. Piccolo is dealing and smoking a cigar.) Ortiz: Come on, Piccolo. Stop showing off and just deal. Piccolo: I like showing off. It's what I'm good at. Wendi: Is there anything that you're not good at? Piccolo: Not lately. Okay, here we go. The game is Black Mariah, Chicago style. Spade boat, but it's only alive when it's under. One-eyed jack is wild, first red two showing gets an automatic card, suicide king cancels the hand. (unintelligible)?four flush beats a pair, high card only wins with the dealer. Any questions? Ortiz: Is this the guy who invented crazy eights? Piccolo: A simple game for a simple mind, Ortiz. Lucas: Yeah, I agree with that. Piccolo: All right, who's in? Lucas: Ah, yeah. Ortiz: Me too. Wendi: Oh, yeah yeah. Piccolo: Okay, dealer's in. He has all the power so he's raising 'em. (He gives everyone another card. Ortiz gets the suicidal king.) History Ortiz! Killed by the dead king. Tough luck. Ortiz: I'm out. Piccolo: And I'm still in. Here we go, and I raise everybody. Wendi: I'm gone. Ortiz: Don't fold, he's bluffing! Wendi: I know, but I can't breathe. Piccolo: All right then, bet's to you Luke. Whadda ya say? (Lucas looks at Wendi who glances at Piccolo and then nods her head.) Lucas: I get the top bunk. Piccolo: Pretty gutsy, cuz. Lucas: Yeah, well I've got a large lung capacity. Piccolo: To bad, killer. (turns over his cards) Trip sixes with a spade queen covered. You shouldn't play with the big boys. Lucas: (turns over his cards) Full boat. Jacks, high ace under. I'm sorry. (laughs) You're gonna have to dream on, from the bottom bunk. (Piccolo is stumped.) (Ward Room) (Ford is reading a book and Brody walks in with his dinner) Brody: (looks at the book cover) I read that. Ford: Oh yeah? Brody: First half is okay, but the ending?(he sits down)..the Police Captain is the murderer. Pretty predictable, huh? Ford: (closes the book and sets it aside) Yeah, it is now. Brody: Hey, nothing worse that reading a whole book and realizing that the ending stinks, right? Ford: Well, I can think of a few things actually, like not being given the opportunity to make that determination on my own. Brody: Waste of time, and from what I hear the crew of this tug has wasted enough of it. (Ford looks at him) Oh, come on, Commander. You guys sank a $10 billion dollar boat last year. Ford: It was for a higher good. Brody: Doesn't matter. So, the Captain wants me to sign on to make sure that doesn't happen again. Ford: You're kidding, right? Brody: Would I kid about a thing like that? Ford: I hope so. Brody: You know, we can be friends. Ford: It's a long tour, Jim. Why don't we just think about that? Brody: Don't have time. Bridger told me I'm rooming with you until they finish remodeling my quarters. Ford: (can't believe this) What's wrong with your quarters? Brody: No place to put the pool table. (Ford sighs in resignation and Brody grins) (END)
